About Terra Caldwell

I grew up in Humboldt County and in the Banning area of California. I graduated from Yucaipa High School in 1992. When I am not teaching, I enjoy writing novels.

What Inspires Me
I am interested in questions of identity and resistance.

My scholarly work has focused on legal and social histories. I have studied Constitutional/legal history and the histories of women, LGBT+ people, African Americans, and Latinos in the US and Latin America. The current focus of my research is in Native American and disability histories.

College
I spent five years as an English major at Humboldt State University. Then I moved to the Bay Area and attended San Francisco State University, where I studied US and Latin American history for both of my degrees. I received my BA from SFSU in 2008 and my MA from the same school in 2010. I obtained my teaching credential in English and Social Studies from Mills College in 2011, and am currently enrolled at St. Mary's College, where I am studying for my Master's in Teaching Leadership. I am a member of Phi Alpha Theta.
