TREND - Transportation, Engineering, and Design-
Engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. The TREND Academy provides students with the opportunity to step into the role of an engineer and or Industrial Designer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, engage in the engineering design process, and climatically make the leap from visionaries to doers. Our pathway courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that empower them to grow and develop their Creativity and Communication skills ultimately becoming better Collaborators and Critical-Thinkers. The knowledge and skill-sets students gain through our programming will help them excel now in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path that they may choose.
Our shared vision is based on the following core values:
- To integrate a technical & academic education that leads to careers in transportation, engineering, and industrial design.
- To create a learning environment that fosters respect for self and others while promoting honesty and integrity.
- To provide programs with high expectations that develop the skills and talents of each individual as well as the skills required to work successfully as team members and leaders.
Our Engineering & Design Pathway
Introduction to Engineering & Design (I.E.D)
Traditionally taken as a Sophomore (can also be accessed as a Junior). In I.E.D students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software, and use an engineering notebook to document their work.
Principals of Engineering (P.O.E)
Traditionally taken as a Junior (can also be accessed as a Senior). Through problems that engage and challenge, P.O.E students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem-solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.
Engineering Design & Development (E.D.D)
Taken as a Senior. E.D.D is the capstone of our pathway. The knowledge and skills students acquire throughout the TREND pathway come together in Engineering Design & Development as they identify a real-world issue and then research, design, and test a solution, ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of engineers. Students apply the professional skills they have developed to document a design process to standards, completing Engineering Design & Development ready to take on any post-secondary program or career.
TREND Leadership meetings will be held in Mr. Kangas' Room (B-3). During the meetings, we will discuss future events for TREND such as rallies, fundraisers, field trips, and more! Please attend to share your input on what we all can do to make TREND great! Stay updated when meetings are held by following TREND Leadership on social media platforms.
