Ms. Vaughn's Page
Hello! My name is Jess Vaughn and I am the English Learner Coordinator at Arroyo. I teach English 10 in the Health and Medicine Academy and ELD 10. I have been a teacher at Arroyo since 2014 and I love being part of this school community.
My goals as an educator are to teach students to think critically, act with empathy and integrity, advocate for themselves and their communities, develop confidence in their voice and identity, and embrace the idea that there is always more to learn. In my classes we learn about social justice issues by critically analyzing a wide variety of texts and having honest discussions about how what we learn connects to each of us individually and as a community.
I love building relationships with my students and work hard to create community with each unique class. I cannot wait to meet all of my new students and families this year! For families of current and former English learners, I will host ELAC meetings via Zoom four times this year. Also, feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Lastly, I am the Global Glimpse Leader at Arroyo, a program which takes rising seniors on leadership trips to Panama, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. If you are a junior and are interested in a global education experience, send me an email!
