Hello! My name is Kay Zimmerman and I co-lead the Future Leaders for Social Change Academy at Arroyo. Within our academy, I teach English 9, Developmental Psychology of Adolescents (DPA) and Developmental Psychology for Children (DPC).
I have been a teacher at Arroyo since 2008 and I have lived in San Lorenzo since 2009. I spent my first five years of teaching at Edendale Middle School. In addition, I have a son who is currently a student at Washington Manor Middle School. So, as you can see, I am very committed to the San Lorenzo community!
My goals are to teach my students about social justice issues and to help them develop leadership skills, critical thinking skills, tools of self-expression and a deeper sense of self-awareness. I believe in the power of community and connection, and I try to turn each class I teach into its own community. I also try to make sure our academy is a place where students feel that they belong and that they always have someone they can reach out to for support.
I love building relationships with my students, and I hope to build many relationships with their families as well. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. I would be happy to connect with you!
